The Romania Green Building Council is partnering with the World Wildlife Fund and Toyota on their multi-city “Climate Caravan” campaign to build awareness about climate change and to discuss actions citizens can take in order to be more environmentally responsible. The RoGBC will supply information on greener homes and construction methods that will save both money and the planet. The campaign targets young and middle aged people and households, including young professionals, all from urban areas and with access to internet/media. More information will be available on a dedicated webpage that is to be launched on September 1 at www.panda.org/romania .

The tour starts in Constanta (September 17), then stops to Bucharest (September 19&20), Brasov (September 22) and Cluj-Napoca (September 24).

The RoGBC website is now live and open for use. You can access it by going to www.RoGBC.org.

The website provides general information about the Council, it’s mission and founding members and is targeted towards new visitors.

The RoGBC website offers access to the RoGBC blog, an interactive tool that provides both protected posts only for members and open posts to help us in our awareness building objectives and create a forum for engaging the public in a conversation about green building.

Through the website you can also access the Green Building Knowledge Sharing Community – a RoGBC moderated knowledge sharing tool that includes the best green building articles, notes and websites from around the world. The Community utilizes Twine – an innovative Web 3.0 service for managing, sharing and organizing information.

Our team is currently working on the Romanian version of the website that will we available early next week.

As always, we look forward to your feedback and suggestions. You can do that by simply leaving a comment below or by sending us an email.

Have a great weekend!

I just returned from a meeting in Warsaw organized by David Lawrence of AIG Lincoln and the BRE Global team to discuss the status of green building in the region and to hear about the pre-launch of the BREEAM standard for Europe. AIG Lincoln is using the BREEAM standard for their CEE building projects. (Watch a presentation where David describes AIG Lincoln’s green projects)

As mentioned in our earlier discussions, the RoGBC is gathering data on green building rating schemes and will begin to form a review committee in September to study the selection of a certification scheme. We are currently supporting both LEED and BREEAM projects in Romania and will continue to do so for the duration of these projects.

Our RoGBC training curriculum is being designed to maximize scores for both the mandatory and voluntary schemes including the Energy Performance for Buildings Directive (EPBD), BREEAM, LEED, and uncertified efforts that incorporate green building principles.

We also recognize the importance of building a regional marketplace for green building products and services to make the training relevant for various certifications if your business crosses borders.

Our team will keep gathering data and keep you informed of our work effort. Please also be sure to send us your feedback as well.
